The Babe Incident - By N.L. Belardes

(This post is PG rated, watch accompanying video at own risk)

I have so far avoided visuals and names involving newsroom drama. But now I think it's time to show the human side of the newsroom. Especially since I got permission from the two parties in question regarding "the babe incident."

Let me set it up for you.

Jay Jones, cool hipster Executive Producer who worked with Geraldo and Dr. Phil behind the scenes often calls people "rock star" or "babe." I'm just as guilty, calling people "big daddy," "brutha," etc. But then, no one is as cool as Jay Jones. And I haven't used "babe."

Enter ABC23 cameraman. He gets called "babe" by the maestro of lingo, mister Jay Jones. Right away the cameraman expressed his distaste at being called "babe" saying he draws the line.

I fired up the digi-cam.

The rest is history, or shall I say, "the babe incident."

one of the best examples of workplace drama in the form as it should be, real. i wish my boss would have been so understanding as mr. rockstar, but if he was i wouldn't have left as his employee the way i did. i have to give it up to the cameraman for giving the best example of curtious rejection of endearment. KUDOS!

I agree. It was all very friendly. No fists, no karate chops. Yet, a clear rejection of the 'babe' terminology.

I'm not sure why I find this absolutely disgusting, but common courtesy is don't call someone by a pet name if
1. you don't know them
2. they express their distaste of said pet name

yet the entire thing is quite comical, if you look at it unbiasedly. -TRex

Funny vid :)

I didn't really hear what they were saying over your voice and laughing lol

That is just weird. A guy does not call another guy babe! ;) -Trish

that's funny - Sherry

In regards to Trish: maybe it's a very Hollywood term. On the Entourage show they use the term of endearment, "babe". Oh and let's not forget Sammy Davis Jr.!

Ok so as I clicked on the video and read the warning of the language, I was all geared up to see someone really upset. Kudos to the 2 of them to talk it out with out any real confrontation. Hats off to see it done responsibly.

I have never heard a man call another man Babe. That is kinda weird if you ask me. I only hear that when 1 of the men are kinda fruity..you know what I mean. Hollywood or not, you don't call another man Babe unless it's coming from a female's mouth. That's what I think! I just wish I would have heard him call the cameraman babe. That would have been funny.
